This article describes how to set up a backup streaming server and how to activate it.

If you leave the backup server field blank in the primary streaming server configuration, the backup Wowza streaming server does not record the Webcast.

Set up the backup streaming server

In the Streaming Server entry in Webcast Manager, you will see a list of all previously created streaming servers.

Click on Create to set up your backup streaming server.

Once you have created the backup streaming server, return to the main Streaming Server menu.

Add the backup streaming server in the configuration

Click on the desired primary stream server.

The configuration window for the streaming server will then open.

In the Ingest Endpoints section, provide the API endpoint of your backup streaming server in the field Backup Ingest API endpoint.

Once you have entered the endpoint of your backup streaming server, save this information by clicking on the Save button in the right-hand corner.

Streaming variables

Information about the streaming variables, which are used within the URL templates to construct the live and DVR playout URLs, can be found in this article.

Switch to the backup streaming server

After setting up the backup streaming server and specifying it in the ingest endpoints in the primary server, you can now use the backup server if an issue with the primary server arises.

If an incident occurs, the Operator of the Webcast must log into Webcast Manager with Manager credentials to activate the backup streaming server.

After logging into Webcast Manager, click on the desired Webcast and remain in the Configuration tab.

Navigate to the Live Section and change the streaming server to the backup server:

Once you have selected the desired backup streaming server, click on Save.

The changes will then take effect, and the backup server will be used immediately.
